Writing
Reading
We have been learning about informational text
features such as tables, diagrams, sidebars, etc.
The students are progressing well on the 40-book
challenge. Many have already surpassed that goal and
have set new goals.
Mathematics
Long division is our current topic. Any review of the
skill that you could do at home would help solidify the
material. The fourth grade goal is to divide four-digit
dividends by 1-digit divisors. (Ex. 4,689 3)
The 100-problem multiplication tests continue. Were
currently working to complete 100 problems in 4
minutes. Were gradually working toward our final
goal, which is 100 problems in 3.5 minutes.
Math Lab
Our focus in math lab has been upon measuring to the
quarter inches. This week, well review another topic:
elapsed time. (Ex. Jake goes to practice at 4:30 PM and
gets home at 8:15 PM. How long was he gone?) Any
extra practice that you could provide at home would
be appreciated.
Science
We recently launched into our next unit: space and
technology. The students are learning about how the
Earth moves even though it seems to stand still.
Social Studies
Weve moved from government into geography and
economics. The students are learning about how the
United States is sectioned into six areas called regions
based on physical and agricultural similarities.
