BEFORE SCHOOL: Contact family and send a welcome/introduction letter during summer Talk with previous teachers about students New class list Create family resource library: information about programs, centers, and activities in the community (create packets of information for families), find books relevant to the families and students Home visit and IEP meetings Research on disability Open House School/classroom handbook Introduction Follow up with each family (letter, email, or phone call). Hand out student information sheet and family involvement sheet Volunteers for classroom Community contacts for families FIRST DAY: Classroom rules and procedures Goals for the year DURING THE YEAR: Establish communication notebooks for each family Create portfolio for each child Monthly newsletters to families Check child's goals and adjust them according to the child's progress TRANSITION OUT: Introduce students to new teacher End of year report for families/new teacher Compile notes/meet with nest teacher
