Multipla towbar on 2004 pre-facelift bug Hi I am fitting a Tow Trust detachable flange type towbar (yes they do exist

- model T !0"!#$% &ne nice thing is that with a second #etachable 'xtension (the bit the ball is attached to($ I can ha)e one dedicated to a greaseless *l+o hitch and fitted with a Maxxraxx bi+e rac+ when towing the cara)an and another for the greased hitch on my box trailer% ,ust a single twist of a +nob to change o)er( *m ha)ing a brea+ from fitting as I thought I may as well ma+e the towbar -in)isiblewhen an extension is not attached by colour coordinating it with the body% .eemed a good idea at the time until I tried to get the paint( It is a solid colour/ 0lue ,ump 1ode 42340/ but Halfords et al don-t stoc+ it nor do iat dealers% In the end I had a 400ml base coat aerosol made for 5!2%60 7 8*T% Had to ring around as the prices )ary a lot% 0lue ,ump is a solid colour but the paint is a 2 pac+ one which ''1 says can only be used by people with an appro)ed booth% The base coat will ha)e to ha)e a clear lac9uer final coat% Tow Trust gi)e their tow bars a protecti)e layer of iron phosphate and then powder coat them in ord 1hassis 0lac+% I :ust sprayed the bar in grey primer and don-t expect any re:ection problems as there won-t be any sol)ent residue to spoil the finish which might ha)e happened if they were brush painted with chassis blac+% I can say that fitting your own towbar e)en with both !2; and !2. cable connections is no great problem now that I ha)e done it( or anyone without a multimeter the cable connections in the rear light clusters are as follows% The number is iat-s terminal numbering% <eft green4blac+ indicator 6 blac+ earth 4 red4yellow stop " yellow4blac+ side 2 white re)ersing ! =ight light green indiactor ! blac+ earth 2 red4blac+ stop " yellow4red side 4 mau)e fog 6 There are negati)e earth posts on each of the rear pillars (the one on the right was unused% I ha)e fitted a =yder >ltra.mart 2 0ypass =elay with fog-light cutoff (T 22!?@- 1$ to get o)er the problems of iat-s thin wiring harness/ and a "0 amp T !!20-" .mart self-switching combination cara)an relay% ;ow :ust ha)e to watch the paint dry( 1ourtesy of .illy 0illy on the iat orum
