Supplementary Files Merge and Load - Chinese Character Manipulation Requirement Data extracted from MFGPRO (code page GB2312) is to be merged with data from supplementary files (Unicode). After merge and manipulation, an output file is to be produced for SAP (Unicode UTF-8). Problem Progress cannot work with more than one code page in a session. China MFGPRO is GB2312, data in supplementary if is in Unicode format . Solution Convert supplementary file to GB2312 before import and merge into progress. After progress data manipulation, export file in GB2312 format, then convert to Unicode UTF-8. Method Conversion using Microsoft Excel and Word (Recommended) 1 Manipulate supplementary file in excel. a. Save file as .txt format Unicode. b. Answer yes to non-compatibility problem Open saved file in word, pop-up select other encoding, then Unicode. Change <tab character> to | in all cases. Save word file as GB2312 format, pop-up select other encoding, then Simplified Chinese GB2312 Transfer to Unix to run required extract, Transform code. Transfer the resulting extracts/transform load files back to windows. Open the file in excel. Save the file as .txt Unicode. Convert file to Unicode, open text file with word, pop-up select Chinese GB2312 to make readable. Save file for SAP, pop-up select Unicode UTF-8. Change extension to include utf8 to indicate type of file.
