EXPERIMENTAL STUDY THE EFFECT OF RADIATOR TO SINJAY ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Abstrac When engine operated, temperature in combustion chamber can be very high and can reach 1925 oC. And because there is temperature different between combustion gas and wall , heat transfer generated to all direction. One of the most important thing about heat exchanger is temperature different. If there is no cooling, temperature of each part will rise and can damage the part if it above material temperature limit. On the other hand if there is to much cooling, temperature different will rise and there will be more heat loss to cooling water so thermal efficiency drop significanly. One of important part in cooling system is radiator, cause radiator play as heat exchanger. That is why we do research the effect of radiator ito engine performance. The method using in this research is variable speed variation between 5500 until 2000 rpm when engine in full throttle state with load from waterbrake to decrease speed. Be side speed, in this research geometric radiator is also one of variation. The variation is using straightfin radiator and louver fin radiator . Some parameter that measure in this study are temperature in let and outside radiator, water and air flow rate. The result is with using louverfin radiator heat rejected increase 34.2%, but bhp decrease 4.49% , sfc increase 50.343% and thermal efficiency decrease 32.02 %.
