Stolen Identities Your identity can be stolen. Over two million deceased Americans personal information is stolen. With your identity criminals can apply for credit cards, cell phones and any other things that require a credit check. Stephen Coggeshall said, Surviving family members can also be victims of this identity fraud as they are left to manage the estates of their deceased loved ones. You should monitor deceased family members identities for one year, he said. ID Analytics collected the names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers on 100 million credit applications. About 800,000 deceased Americans have their identities intentionally stolen, but 1.6 million identities are stolen by chance. Just because you are dead does not mean you cannot be robbed.
