Beginning Opening Statement/activity Talk to the child about the different objects and what they are, during free play.

Middle: Let the child play with the objects, placing them in the shoebox and then dumping them out. Extensions: Easier: Help the child with filling and emptying the shoebox. Trickier: Ask the child if they know what the names of the objects are.

End Have child help you put away objects when they are done.

Follow-up Ideas: Let the child explore with other materials around and let them put those in the shoebox as well.
