Vocabulary and Questions for Evaluating Sources In this assignment you must find several sources that provide

different perspectives on your issue. It is really important that these sources are reliable and would be generally respected by an academic audience. When we evaluate sources there are certain concepts that we talk about. Do you understand the meaning of the following words? Discuss definitions with a partner: Credibility (n.) Credible (adj.) Currency (n.) Current (adj.) Bias (n.) Biased (adj.) Advocacy (n.) Skepticism (n.) Skeptical (adj.) Affiliation (n.)

Whenever you encounter a source that you might be able to use, ask these questions: Who is the author? What are His or Her qualifications? What are the author's professional affiliations? What is the authors perspective? What is the purpose of the source? Is the source well respected? What is the sources bias? Does the source provide evidence? What kind? Is this evidence primary or secondary? Is the evidence accurate? When was the source written? Is the information current? Does this source help answer your research question?

Group Activity: Considering the sample sources, would you use them in for your annotated bibliography? Why? Why not? Use the vocabulary above to answer the questions and evaluate the sources.
