Exploring the Antihero Through Film Mini-Assignment V for Vendetta or Fight Club As your one and only homework

assignment in this unit, you will be watching either V for Vendetta or Fight Club at home with a partner. This is to be done between now and Monday (April 14th). I have chosen these two movies as classroom resources because they both provide excellent examples of the antihero character. My suggestion is that you use this character in your in-class essay, since both V and Tyler Durden are such rich characters. Aside from viewing the movie, here is what I want you to do: 1. Create a Trading Card for your film character (Tyler or V) 2. Be prepared to discuss and explain your films plot and antihero character with another pair of your peers who have not seen your chosen film 3. After discussing the two movies with your peers, fill out the attached compare/contrast chart using your antihero, and the other pairs antihero This will be done during class time Having an opportunity to educate your peers about your chosen films plot and antihero character will both help you develop a better understanding of the film, and provide you with an opportunity to practice comparing and contrasting characters. Assignment Timeline: Before Viewing: Read over the Compare/Contrast sheet with your partner, so that you know what to look for while you view the film. During Viewing: Jot down point-form notes in the column that corresponds to your chosen antihero (note: if you are a neat freak, you might want to write these notes down on a separate piece of paper, since you may want to edit your answers in the chart during group discussion) On your Trading Card, record heroic/villainous traits and the evidence that supports them (for use in your essay) by also recording the film times (eg. 01:30) at which they occur After Viewing: Revise your jot-notes and prepare yourself to discuss them in class on Monday You will be given the first part of class to work on your Trading Card, and to prepare yourself for the peer discussion Take part in peer discussion (during which time you will complete the other two columns of your compare/contrast chart) But, is this worth maaaaaaarks? I will leave this up to you, as a class. The purpose behind this assignment is to 1) provide you with additional antiheroes (which you may discuss in your upcoming essay) and 2) give you a chance to practice comparing characters (which you will be doing in your essay, which will definitely be worth marks). If you feel comfortable receiving marks for this assignment, we will make up a rubric together. If you would rather use this assignment to practice, that is perfectly fine too.
