Lander University Teacher Education Lesson Plan Template

Rev. 2013

Procedures:
1. We will first warm-up by play through several scales. 2. When we get to the third scale, I will write several different articulations on the board. I will ask students to name each articulation and then I will have the students play eight quarter notes of each articulation on a concert Eb. I will also pass out articulation exercise handouts. We will spend extra time on these if students struggle with them. 3. Once we have finished, we will play Imperium. 4. I will start from the beginning and work my way through the piece stopping at specific sections along the way. We will mainly focus on articulations during the piece, but I may touch on some dynamics during the piece. I will also work with small sections of the band and spend a decent amount of time with each section to make sure they are playing accurately. 5. Then I will play a recording of "Imperium" so the students can hear exactly how it sounds before we the play the entire piece. 5. After we have listen and fingered along with the recording we will play the entire piece through. Hopefully by this point we will not need to go back fix mistakes.
