APOPHIS THE GOD OF CHAOS

APOPHIS: THE GIANT SNAKE

I am doing my report on apophis, the god of chaos. apophis is a fifty foot snake with orange spots and blue lines. he is the enemy of all light. The ancient egyptians believed that every night when the sun went down apophis was swallowing the sun. They also thought that ra the god of the heavens, would have to battle him every night so the sun could rise. One reason Ra had to fight Apophis was so he could bring people to the underworld.

FUN FACT: APOPHISS NAME MEANS SPAT OUT .

In order to kill apophis, Ra and the other gods would have to spear him, slash him with hot knives to break all his bones apart, and then they would chop him up into little pieces and then they would burn every piece. Apophis also had 2 helpers. Their names were Sebau and Nak. Priests in ancient egypt thought for Ra to win the needed to make offerings. What they would do is they would make wax figures of Apophis and his helpers with the names on them and and they would stab them and slash them with hot knives to seperate it and then they would chop them up and burn them. In some myths apophis was said to originally be the go of the heavens and no one knew so Ra took over and Apophis became very jealous so he became the god of chaos. It was also said that apophis supposedly swallows the sun when there were eclipses.

FUN FACT: IN THE BOOK OF OVERTHROWING APOPHIS IT HAS HIS SECRET NAMES.
