Whats been happening?

EC Week 32 UISG EC Division

We like to give a big thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped out last Friday. The field trip was wonderful. Weather was good and everything went smoothly. The canteen did a wonderful job with the individual bagged lunches. The children were excited to see so many marine animals. Some noticed patterns on the fishs body. This field trip is a tuning in to our summative assessment which we will start this week. Children will have an opportunity to research on an animal of their choice and find out its life cycle. They will explore ways of finding out information as researching skills is one area of focus in this UOI. Due to the 3-day short week, we will most likely extend this UOI for one more week after the break. Some changes to our K2 schedule after the holiday th (week of May 5 ): The rest time for the children will be cancelled in order for us to prepare them for prep level. From our observations, there are only a few who sleep during this 1hr period. Instead, this 1 hr will continue to be a quiet time for children to catch up with work, engage in quiet table games and freely move around the learning centres. It will also give teachers more time to spend 1:1 with the children. The mornings will somewhat be adjusted also. Instead of coming directly into the classrooms, we will start to train the children to put their school bags outside in a line and ask them to wait there until they hear the cymbals at 8:20am. From prep level onwards, all students follow this rule. At that time, the children will line up and we will walk them in. Initially we will stay outside to monitor the children for the first week and then we will move away and let the regular duty supervisors take over. In the event it is raining, all students will be asked to directly go to the classroom. Yes, your child is growing and becoming an independent learner! They are really to take the next step. Swimming lessons: We would like our parent volunteers to come to the classroom 30 mins. before to help out change the children (15mins) and walk them to the pool (5-7mins). Since the K2s have their lesson at the end of the day, we will need the child to carry both their school bag and swim bag directly to the pool so we can dismiss the children right after swimming. K2R Monday at 2:15-2:15 (this week) th K2Y and K2G Thursday at 2:15-3:15 (next week May 8 due to holiday) Reminder to pack in your childs swim bag: -towel -girls with long hair hair elastic or swim cap -girls with bikini can wear a t-shirt over -plastic bag to contain wet swimsuit for after the lesson -goggles (glasses to protect eyes from the chlorine in the pool) Other reminders: please send a HAT!
