Evan Dailey Benchmark: 1 Birdhouse

A piece of work I did in career center was building a bird house. The tasks that had to be done were difficult; they were to weld two plates of stringer beads front and back. You also had to use 6010 electrode to weld stringer beads all the way around the cylinder and then the next task was to use the acetylene torch to cut a hole in the cylinder. The final task was to weld the cylinder to the plate of beads that way you have a top and bottom.

How I accomplished this task was all mentally. To accomplish this was I stayed very calm and took my time on all my welds. You need to always stay calm and take your time so you dont rush yourself and destroy your part by just messing up one weldment. Another reason on how I accomplished this was by asking my instructors questions and asking then for demonstrations so It would sink into my head.

The struggles I had along the way on this project were staying calm and making my welds overlap just right and having the stringer beads straight as an arrow. Cutting the hole in the cylinder that has to be done one and half inch thick was probably one of the hardest things to do on the whole project.

What I learned from this project was by getting mad does not solve anything it just makes things worse than they already are. Things I learned from this project were becoming a better stick welder by using 6010 and 7018 electrode, and how to lay a straight bead nicely overlapping each other. I also learned how to make a bird house out of welds.
