1. How do smart phones affect college students?

2. How do college students use smart phones? What percent of college students have smart
phones? Are professors in favor of this technology in the classroom? How can smart phones
help college students with learning? How can smart phones hinder a college student from
learning? Would some smart phones be more helpful than others? Are smart phones too
distracting to be used as a learning device? Are there classes designed around learning with
smart phone technology? Will smart phones continue to be more involved in the classroom?
Why are smart phones preferred over the previous technologies?

3. Starting out I didn't really know how smart phones help college students I just assumed they
helped with having access to the internet where ever they are. I did however know that smart
phones are very distracting so that is how they hinder students ability to learn. I chose this
because I am currently majoring in electrical engineering so anything with technology is really
interesting to me. I chose to focus on college students because I am a college student right now
so it is interesting to research something that involves me directly.

4. So far I know that there was a study on this in Sweden and it resulted in the smart phones being
very effective in assisting the student's learning. They were especially helpful in communication
during group projects. The teams were able to get a hold of each other a lot easier and workout
who is responsible for what in the project. They even studied how students felt about a smart
phone based class where the class is designed so that the students have to use their smart
phones to learn. By the end of this course, most students ended up saying that it was more
helpful than traditional learning styles were. At this point in time, I feel like my inquiry question
is broad enough to find a lot of information on but narrow enough to write a well focused
research paper. I do not plan on changing my research topic at all.
