Technology Enhancement
Technology plays a big role in education and implementing lessons. As it has become an integral
part of society, it is important to involve technology in the classroom as well. It provides exciting
and innovative ways to teach lessons and more importantly, it keeps students engaged. Students
come in all sorts of learning styles and technology helps with students who learn better using
gadgets. Technology also help students develop skills that are important in todays world. In a
science classroom, a student can learn information processing skills that will aid in all subject
areas and not to mention the future. Other great reasons why technology enhances students
learning experiences are: to improve lectures, enhances the lesson, great visual tool, an
abundance of resources, and the ability to show demonstrations of complexity.
During my UTeach field experience, I taught ninth graders a lesson on osmosis. During the lab
portion, our osmosis lab did not work as planned, and using the a video found from YouTube
demonstrating the lab in two minutes, the students were able to understand the main point of
their experiment. My students did not seem too enthusiastic over the lesson and to get them
engaged, I had them participate in an interactive jeopardy game over the concepts. This was a
great way of engaging the students and also an opportunity to formatively assess my students.
During my three day problem based lesson, I used a rollercoaster simulation game that was very
well received by my students. The students not only enjoyed the game, they used the game to
build their knowledge of their concepts and used it to help them model their rollercoasters. The
use of an anchor video also helped the students become more excited over the lesson.
