Professional Responsibilities: Ethics and Standards Practices
(3) Ethical Conduct Toward Students.
(D) Standard 3.4. The educator shall not exclude a student from participation in a program, deny benefits to a student, or grant an advantage to a student on the basis of race, color, gender, disability, national origin, religion, family status, or sexual orientation.
The above ethical standard definitively applies to my philosophy. As a teacher, I make sure all my students are safe in my classroom. In no way do I let them feel that another student has a greater advantage than the other. My class is a place where all my students are equal. Of course, each student has their own level of learning; however, I am not biased to any student over the others.
Religion, color, gender, disability, family status, race, nation origin and sexual orientation have no relation to my classroom. In my class, the goal is to succeed and I would like all my students to attain it no matter their differences. Education is the key to that success.
My classroom will be set up in a way that all students will have an advantage. I will move around the classroom during lessons so that no students will feel left out. All students will be required to be respectable toward other students beliefs and customs. The classroom will be a place to learn, not a place to judge others. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure no student feels unequal; I will make sure to provide equal learning opportunities to all students. Through UTeach, I have learned that it is essential to move around while teaching. This is a great way to make sure all students are gaining from the lesson equally. I will also use popsicle sticks when questioning my students so that there is no bias in the classroom. During group work, I will not let students create their own groups. I believe that letting students choose their own groups secludes the other students. I will be choosing groups randomly. My goal as a teacher is to make sure my students are positively learning concepts and feeling respected in the classroom. I strive to do that.
