The 26
th
Annual Dinner Auction
Its that time of year again, the time when our community comes together to enjoy great
food and company, and raise money for the upcoming year. This years dinner will consist of deep
pit barbeque, delicious salad and bread all prepared by Maria Gamache, Alvin Lewis, the Whipple
family, and FFA members. To purchase tickets you can contact any FFA member. Adult tickets
are $10, under twelve and over sixty will cost $6. The cost of a family of four is $30. Tickets will
also be available at the door; $12 for an adult, $8 for under 12 and over 60. Family cost at the
door will be $35.
Once inside there will be a silent and live auction with tons of wonderful items to bid on
including locally crafted goods, tickets to Disneyland, Firewood, Hay, labor, and even an award
winning log splitter crafted by Kelly Carter. Come on down to Etna High School on October 5
th

at 5pm to get a piece of the action.
All of the items at the Auction are donated from both local businesses and people, and
large corporations. The Etna FFA could not be more grateful for the donations it receives and
would not be able to succeed if it wasnt for the generous contributors that mean so much to us.
If you are interested in donating please contact Kellie Hargett at 530-467-3244 EXT. 37. The Din-
ner Auction is the largest fundraiser that the Etna FFA holds all year and any contribution is both
helpful and greatly appreciated. All of the money raised supports members interests including
speaking competitions, educational conferences, and hands on learning experiences. The Club
looks forward to seeing you at the auction!

2013-2014 Classes
Mrs. Kellie Hargett will be teaching Intro to Ag/Earth Science, Ag
Biology, ROP Ag Business, ROP Ornamental Horticulture and ROP Natu-
ral Recourses/ Forestry. All classes incorporate the three circles con-
sisting of Classroom, FFA (leadership & speaking), & Supervised Ag
Experience Project (SAEP). An SAEP is anything relating to agriculture
that allows the student to have responsibility and keep record of hours,
expenses, and income. Projects can range from growing plants in the
school greenhouse, cutting wood, and mowing the lawn (landscaping), to
raising fair animals, and working agricultural related jobs.
On top of earning a University of California approved science
credit, by taking Intro to Ag and Ag Biology, students will be provided
with a hands on learning experience, and will be able to participate in the
FFA at the local, state, and national levels.
Intro to Ag/Earth Science is a class that incorporates the funda-
mentals of FFA and basic agricultural information with state legislated
Earth Science standards for first year Ag students, generally freshmen.
This class also focuses on incorporating record keeping and public speak-
ing.
Ag Biology parallels the state biology standards with furthering
involvement and understanding of FFA and the Ag industry as a whole.
This class is most often attended by sophomores, but anyone with an in-
terest in agriculture or science is welcome! We will be starting off with the
following projects: plant science restoration at Greenhorn Park and Salm-
on Surveying along the Scott River.
In taking ROP Ag Business, students receive UC approved eco-
nomics credit and reap the benefits of a career-focused class in the agri-
culture industry and FFA involvement. Currently, this class is busy organ-
izing and planning the Annual Dinner Auction. This is usually a junior lev-
el class. All on track ag students earn their State Degree during this
course.
Both ROP Natural Resources/Forestry and Horticulture clas-
ses lend themselves to high school science credit (UC g elective) and are
also oriented around career discovery. The classes are very hands-on
and are often visited by guest speakers and field trips are organized. Due
to their emphasis on finding a career, these classes are directed towards
juniors and seniors. Please look for advertisements throughout the year
for our Holiday arrangements and plants. We also plan on selling our ap-
ples and plants at our local Etna Farmers Market. Also, feel free to con-
tact us!
Mr. Jacob Hargett, will be teaching Intro to Ag Mechanics, ROP
Ag Mechanics, and ROP Ag Wood. Both mechanics classes will teach
students skills that they will use to repair, construct, and fabricate items
for themselves instead of paying someone else to do it for them. Students
will get valuable skills in engines and other modes of power transfer.
Wood will teach the tools and skills needed to enjoy the art of wood craft-
ing and construction. Focus is hands on application and knowledge of
multiple life skills. These classes also involve active membership in the
FFA. Look for updates and a Spring showcase to see what the students
are learning and completing in shop. Community projects are always wel-
come and help stretch the budget while increasing student experiences.
