SPECTRUM THUNDER FOOTBALL
TEAM POLICY

SCHOOL
Players must be in good standing:

a. Players must attend all classes
b. Players must be passing all subjects or making every effort to pass
c. Players may be placed on academic probation
d. Players must be respectful to all teachers and students
e. Players are responsible for completing school work if they miss classes due to football
f. Suspension from school is a suspension from the team. Following a suspension, a
post-suspension meeting will be held to re-establish expected behavior to be able to continue
playing

COMMUNICATION
Information for players and parents will be sent out via email and will be posted on Spectrum Thunder's
webpage @ spectrumathletics.weebly.com

GEAR
Full gear will be issued, by the Equipment Manager, several weeks before your first game. Players will be
fitted and receive their gear once their form and gear deposit cheque ($450) have been received.

Players must let the Equipment Manager know if they have lost or misplaced a piece of
equipment
Players should not share/swap gear with another player
Gear return dates will be emailed to parents and players and will be posted on the team's
webpage
Gear deposit cheques will be returned once ALL the gear has been returned and checked by the
Equipment Manager
Players who do not return their gear on the specified dates, will not be able to attend the team's
year-end banquet and risk having their gear deposit cheque cashed

PRACTICES
Players are expected to attend all practices - attendance is taken every practice
Players should contact the coach or team sponsor if they cannot attend
Injured players are expected to attend all practices
BE ON TIME!
Part-time employment is not to be in conflict with practice or game time

HOME GAMES
Players will be dismissed early from their last class on game day. The team sponsor will email teachers a
team roster so players are not marked absent.

Players are expected to help before and after the game with field set up, take down and clean up.

AWAY GAMES
Players will miss some or all classes on game day depending on the game's location. Only players in good
standing (refer to p. 4) will be allowed to travel with the team.

We ask that every effort be made to arrange family events so they dont conflict with any football
activities.

Players are expected to travel to and from the game together (as a team). If a player has to travel
separately because of a previous commitment or at the request of the parents, the coaching
staff and team sponsor must be made aware two days before the game
Sorry - family or friends cannot ride in the bus unless they are part of the coaching staff

Cleanliness is expected!
locker room
equipment room
any vehicle used for transportation (bus, ferry, private vehicle, etc.)
football equipment, practice and game uniforms
any other area the football team uses will be kept clean and orderly

Dress regulations
Day before or the day of the game the team jersey will be worn at school

Sideline discipline
Watch the game and know what is going on
Know who you are backing up
Know when the player you are backing up is injured
Players are never to substitute themselves off and on the field

JR PRACTICES
Pre-season
Light practices begin Saturday, April 5
Strength & conditioning (Spectrums weight room) begins Monday, April 7
Full gear practices will be scheduled several weeks before the June Jamboree
Players will break for summer and resume practices in August

Season
Practice dates and times will be emailed to players and posted on the webpage
JR GAMES
Pre-season
The team will participate in a June Jamboree and exhibition games will be played late August
and into September

Season
Regular season begins late September/early October


SR PRACTICES
Pre-season
Light gear practices begin Saturday, April 5
Strength & conditioning begins Monday, April 7
Full gear practices will be scheduled several weeks before the June Jamboree
The team will continue light practices / strength & conditioning in the summer

Season

The team will participate in a June Jamboree
Exhibition games will be played late August and into September

FEES

Player registration fees help cover costs for: travel, equipment, BC High School Football Association
(BCHSFA) fees, referee fees, field lining and more. This years fees and deposits are:

$375 JR Team players
$450 SR Team players
$150 Fundraising/Volunteer deposit due upon registration (postdated to December 15 2014)
$450 Gear deposit (refundable upon return of equipment, refer to page 4)

JR TEAM FEES
$150 payable upon registration (non-refundable after June 10, 2014)
$225 payable June 13, 2014 (non-refundable after the first exhibition game Aug/Sept)

SR TEAM FEES
$150 payable upon registration (non-refundable after June 10, 2014)
$300 payable June 13, 2014 (non-refundable after the first exhibition game Aug/Sept)

Late registration will be prorated at the discretion of the team sponsor.
Please contact the team sponsor if you have questions or you require financial
assistance.

FUNDRAISING
$150 Fundraising/Volunteer deposit (due upon registration, post-dated cheque to
December 15 2014)
Funds raised through the efforts of players is necessary each year to cover expenses for
this program. Players will have the opportunity to earn back this amount, or a portion of
it, by participating in fundraising activities this season. Some ideas include:

Manure sales players will be asked to pre-sell bags to family, friends, neighbours,
teachers, etc. and bag the manure when it is delivered to Spectrum. Poor guys
Krispy Crme donuts
BC Lions Weekend Getaway (two game tickets and free hotel night prize) players will
sell raffle tickets
Bottle Drive a successful bottle drive can raise $1500 or more

Parents interested in helping with fundraising activities, can contact Sue Brennan.

GEAR DEPOSIT
$450 Postdated cheque December 15 2014 (refer to page 4)



All cheques for fees and deposits should be made payable to SPECTRUM COMMUNITY SCHOOL.

TEAM JACKETS

Letterman-style team jackets will be ordered the first week of late August/early September. Information
and order forms will be emailed to players and posted on the teams webpage.

by the Team Sponsor.

1. Adult Volunteer Driver Form *
2. Student Volunteer Driver Form (Sr. Team players must fill out a form if they are driving one other
Spectrum student)

* Drivers must complete this form and provide proof of $1,000,000 third party liability every school
year. The districts policy for adult drivers will be changing for the 2014-15 school year. Drivers will
also need to submit a criminal record check (valid for five years) and a drivers abstract.
