Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church
is a Reconciling in Christ
Congregation.
The members of Trinity Lutheran Church recog-
nize that God loves, Forgives, and calls each of us uncondition-
ally and that every human being is created in the image of God.
As a result, we welcome all people into our community of faith
and invite them to join us as we seek to understand Gods love
for us and struggle to be faithful messengers of that love in the
world. Although our world is a place of alienation and broken-
ness, Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness. In response,
we join hands with all our sisters and brothers, grateful for the
unique gifts that each of us has to offer, regardless of our race,
age, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental abilities,
sexual orientation, national origin, or economic status. We cele-
brate together both the diversity of Gods creation and our unity
as Gods people.

after worship

Join us in the fellowship hall after worship on the third Sunday
of Easter to help your Worship and Music Team select a differ-
ent wine for Holy Communion at Old Trinity. We've found that
the wine we currently use does not "keep" well for service to
homebound members; together we'll select one of three varieties
of port wine, which, we believe, will be more serviceable.
Special thanks to Eric Lumbra for his assistance!

VOLUME 8, I SSUE 5 PAGE 2

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

Christ is risen! Alleluia!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Since receiving a merit badge in electronics as a boy scout right around 19 hunnert and 76, Ive read almost
nothing about techie stuff. My computer is to me what engineers call a black box. And yet it works quite well for me,
most of the time, as long as I dont ever try to fix it.
Just once in a while it stops working, and I have to restart the thing. I dont know why or how it should help but
every now and again Im forced to. I dont know what else to do. Running too slow? Reboot. Frozen? Reboot. Program
not working the way I want it to? Reboot. Restarting works, somehow!
In the resurrection all of creation and all of humanity got a restart. Our concern for ourselves above all else
gets us all tangled up and bogged down, preventing us from living or working the way God meant us to. The more we
try to fix ourselves, the worse we get. Christ was betrayed, forsaken, condemned, and killed by folks trying to fix them-
selves and their world. And the best people of the best religion and the best servants of the most powerful empire mere-
ly showed themselves desperately broken.

But Christ is risen! Alleluia!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia.

On Easter morning Christ emerged from that most mysterious and awful black box providing a fresh start for
humanity. In the resurrection God has overcome the deep problem in our existence, our brokenness, a problem we
dont even understand. In the Spirits power Christ restarts our lives. Each week we gather for worship to celebrate the
resurrection, our lives are re-set, and our lives are refounded upon the undying, healing, eternal love of God in Christ.
The Good News of the renewing, never-dying love of God in Christ is especially important when, as these days
at Old Trinity, we are facing a reboot of another sort. Some older ways of doing things are harder to work, and different
ways are emerging. I believe we are being called to think afresh about our calling, mission, and community.
Or maybe you are troubled by changes in your workplace, in society, or in your family. If so, remember that in
the midst of all of the difficulties we face, indeed at the very center of them, is the Christ of new beginnings, who is the
same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Though heaven and earth pass away, and though our lives are always being
transformed, the risen Christ will remain oursor rather, we will remain His. May you experience resurrection power
in the mysterious, renewing love of Christ!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Pastor Chuck

A MESSAGE FROM LOVE
L.O.V.E. stands for Let Our Voices Emerge; we are a
group for GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and
Transgendered) people and their allies. L.O.V.E. was
created to combat the stigma that all religious people are
against GLBT people and believe they have no place in
the church.

In May, L.O.V.E. will be discussing the Bible passages
that are used to justify why it is immoral to be gay. We
will be meeting at 6:30P.M. on the following date and
discussing the following topic:

May 11: The New Testament
We would like to invite all of you to attend and make this
a successful gathering, full of great discussion.

Hope to see you all there,
Robert Neymeyer
L.O.V.E. Facilitator
Shoe Project

Plant Pride on Parsons conducted a shoe collection drive from
April 1-25 to raise funds for Parsons Avenue Plants while bene-
fiting developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local
landfills.
In the USA alone approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are
thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair
of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create
health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By
donating your gently worn, used shoes, your shoes are given a
second chance to make a difference. All donated shoes will be
redistributed to partners through Funds2Orgs and used in devel-
oping nations for impoverished people to start, maintain , and
grow a unique business opportunity to feed, clothe and house
their families. The additional advantages of diverting shoes from
the waste stream to create commerce and sustainability in peo-
ples' lives make this a win-win for everyone.
The shoe drive was a wonderful success. We collected more
bags of shoes than we hoped for. Thank you so much Trinity
Lutheran Church.
God's Peace be with you,
Sharon Thacker
Presidents Report

As I sit in the choir loft and look out at the congregation on Sundays, some familiar faces are missing.
Weve lost some of our older members who have joined our Father in heaven. Some of the newer faces have
moved on to new opportunities. Some of our members have encountered some medical challenges that do not
permit them to attend services on Sundays at this time. It is hoped that the final arrival of spring will enable
some of the missing faces to return to Old Trinity to take up their roles as members of our church. We miss
these people.
At the same time, there are some new faces in the sanctuary. Some of them belong to members who are
returning to Old Trinity. Some are those of people who are checking out our church to see if it might be a fit
for them. Others are the faces of regular visitors who seem to reap their spiritual needs by attending our ser-
vices. All of these people have been adding to the value of our worship and we are glad to see them.
What both of these things signify is that all of us need to take new roles in welcoming the new faces and to
start checking on those faces which are missing. All of us can be ambassadors for the church by being sure to
shake the hands of our visitors and letting them know that were glad to have them worshipping with us. (I
find that this is something at which I need to improve as I seem to have glue stuck to my shoes that wont let
me leave the choir loft. It is something on which I will be hoping to improve.) There are some in our congre-
gation who regularly check on our ailing members, but all of us can make a call if there is someone we know
is missing to find out if everything is okay. Others have welcomed us to Old Trinity and check on how we are
doing we need to make sure we do the same thing.
Thank you for attending Old Trinity and making my worship experience a meaningful one. Making me a
part of the Old Trinity family has provided a comfort to my life which is very valuable. Along with you, I
hope we can provide these same feelings for those who attend church with us on Saturday night and Sunday.
We need to fill the shoes of those who are no longer with us and welcome those who have come to join us. I
look forward to working with you to meet this challenge head-on as we go forward.

Adult Faith Discussions during the
Easter Season:

During the Easter season, beginning May 4th, we'll dis-
cuss the Second Letter of Peter, from which we'll also be
reading in worship for the season. "How can our faith
give us power to face the challenges of a world which is
changing fast? How shall we live as people of faith in
this world?" These questions, so important to us today,
are just what the First Letter of Peter was written to an-
swer. Join us as we grow in grace!

Join us for our Adult Class on Sundays in May at 9:00
a.m. in the lounge as we explore this epistle together:

May 4th: I Peter, chapter 1
May 11th: I Peter, chapter 2
May 18th: I Peter, chapter 3

March and April have been great months for the Community Ministry team. We served at Faith Mission, the LSS food
pantry, collected games and other goods for the St. Vincent Family Center and helped a new nonprofit when a group of us
participated in the Lady Tutu 5K. Given the great response we had to the Lady Tutu 5K, we are looking at the possibility of
doing more events like this even if the run itself is not benefiting a nonprofit organization. If this sounds like something you
are interested in, please get in touch with Gretchen Brandt.
The Samaritan Ministry is also under the Community Ministry team and we need your help with this. Each month we are
fixing some lunches to compliment the lunches made by the women of the Rachel Circle. We are finding that demand is
larger than we anticipated so we would appreciate donations of chicken salad kits (found at your local Dollar Tree), packs of
bottled water, something sweet (like a Rice Krispies Treat or small individual packages of cookies) and a small savory
snack (like the containers with mini breadsticks and cheese or individual bags of chips).
Please join us in May as we look to work with Habitat for Humanity. We will also be serving at the LSS Food Pantry on
the 7th. Please contact Neal Coryell for details. We are also going to be adding some Saturday dates at the Food Pantry so
get in touch with Neal or Gretchen if you are interested in helping with that. The Community Ministry team is also still col-
lecting plastic bags but will now be giving them to the Food Pantry for their use, please see Gretchen if you have questions
about that ministry.
All in all, we are doing great things for our community and I appreciate all of the time, hard work and support that you have
shown our committee.
Thank you all so much!
Gretchen
