Geography, Mapping, and GIS Awareness Activities

An Overview

These three lessons, “Map Features”, “Planning a Trip”, and “You’re the Realtor”, are designed
for middle school students (grade 6-8). They were developed to reinforce concepts in a GPS/GIS
afterschool program, but could be used as part of any geography or leadership program. The
skills emphasized include internet literacy, cartography, geography, using GIS to answer
questions, math, problem solving, and critical thinking.
