I am pleased to Recommend Doug Thomson for a teaching position at your school.

I have
had the privilege to build a greatreport with Doug while working with him this past
school year. Doug supports my ESL learner students along with the other students in my
classroom.
Doug presently teaches the English as Second Language Learners at Fox Hill
Elementary. During the year I have teamed up with Mr. Thomson to work with my
students during my Kindergarten literacy block. Doug is very dedicated to them and
works well with me to meet the needs of both my English Language Learners and my
native English speakers. During planning time Doug has made great suggestions on how
better to meet the needs of my students. He was able to dialogue with me effectively and
enthusiastically about best instructional practices to meet our language objectives.
As a highly effective instructor Doug meets the needs of my students working in small
groups. He is able to incorperate several different learning techniques to differentiate
instruction. He uses a variety of practices to front load student leaming and interest.
Quite
often Doug uses his tablet to scaffold vocabulary by using short video clips and pictured
to aid in understanding and student interest. On a weekly basis Doug is able to bring the
class together for song time. He uses his guitar to create songs, which the class sings and
acts out to promote fluency and comprehension practice. I appreciate this time for my
students because it gives them a break from normal classroom routines and allows them
to use different modalities of leaming to accomplish classroom-learning goals.
Doug values and strives for creative quality instruction and student achievement. He is
also a great colleague to work with. If you get the opportunity to have him as a team
member, he will add value to your school and most importantly he will make a difference
for your students.
