Teaching the English language is not that easy in view of the fact that we
are used to speaking our native language which is the mother tongue. We have
to go deeper in learning the English language based on the belief that learning
something new is inherently difficult to do at first, but that it would get easier as
you progress. As a teacher, we have to use different kinds of teaching methods
to have an effective transfer of knowledge to the learners.
Most language learners wonder how long it will take to become fluent in
the language they are learning. It's a difficult question to answer because there
are so many factors to think about or consider. Language learning is influenced
by factors such as the learner's ability, the learning environment, motivation, prior
experience learning second languages, and the intensity of instruction. The
purpose of a teacher is to motivate students by emphasizing that learning a
language requires work, intelligence, patience, and a few strategic methods.
Students can experiment with various teaching methods and evaluate them to
determine which ones are most effective through this process. In the classroom,
when teaching English language, speaking and listening will be integrated first
and reading and writing may follow through with the development of a written text
based on the learner’s experiences. The use of instructional games will allow
students to learn new knowledge while having fun and will prevent them from
feeling bored in the classroom. This type of teaching method will help learners in
becoming fluent in the English language.
The direct method strategy encourages students to speak and is more
focused on pronunciation and question-and-answer patterns, learning by
experience, and applying classroom knowledge to real-life situations. The
bilingual method allows teachers and students to use two languages as a
medium of instruction, which may assist in second language acquisition. This
method teaches students to speak fluently and accurately while also teaching
them to use both the first language and the second language acquisition
simultaneously. The teacher will construct some tasks for the second language
and use the mother tongue as a medium of instruction to ensure that both
languages improve and develop as the students learn the second language
acquisition.
