In George Town, a club bouncer was sentenced to 15 years in
jail for causing the death of a 60 year old woman during a
snatch theft 2 years ago.
This case made the headlines as a CCTV recording showed 7
people walking past the victim, Tan Kim Chaun without
offering help as she lay unconscious on the ground in Rifle
Range Flats in 2012.
Ooi Kean Leong, a 36 year old coffeeshop worker has pleaded
guilty to committing the offence.

The story started when Tan was walking alone at the
motorcycle parking area in front of Rifle Ranges Block J when
suddenly Ooi came from behind on a motorcycle and
snatched her handbag. She then fell and knocked the back of
her head on the road.
Justice Zamani Abdul Rahim asked him how could he snatch a
bag of an innocent woman and replied with This is not an
action by a human but the action of an animal.

In Hong Kong, a woman who allegedly tortured her
Indonesian domestic helper sparked international concern is
facing new charges relating to unpaid wages and owed
holidays.
Law Wan Tung, 44 year old mother of 2 was arrested in
January for seriously wounding Erwiana Sulistyaningsih, her
former domestic helper.
Ms. Erwiana has suffered severe abuse in a high profile case
which renewed worries over the treatment of domestic
helper in Southern Chinese city and sparked angry protests.
