from Great Britain.
-Significance : This pamphlet
inspired people in the 13

colony to declare and fight for
independence from Great
Britain.
A swivel chair is a chair with a single
centered leg that allows the seat to spin
around. They can have wheels on the
bottom allowing the user to move the
chair around without getting up.
Significance : It was invented by
Thomas Jefferson which he used to
write the Declaration of Independence
which he later sent the chair to
Virginia.
Bifocals provided
magnification to read text.
They were also known as eye
glasses.
Significance : Many people say that Benjamin Franklin
invented them but say it was invented 50 years before that.

A cupcake is a small cake
designed to serve one person. It
may be baked in a small thin
paper or aluminum cup. Like
larger cakes, icing and other
cake decorations, like sprinkles,
may be applied.
Significance : The first mention of the cupcake was when a recipe notation of
"a cake to be baked in small cups" was written in American Cookery by Amelia
Simmons.
The Banjo clock which was
invented by Simon Willard is a
wall clock with a banjo-shaped
case. The banjo clock normally
lacks a striking mechanism and
indicates time only by its hands
and dial.
Significance : Only 4,000
authentic Simon Willard banjo
clocks were made.
Safety pins are commonly
used to fasten pieces of
fabric or clothing together.
Significance : they were
widely used to fasten cloth
diapers also known as
nappies, so that the safety
clasp prevented the baby
from being jabbed.
The Salt and Pepper Shakers
are condiment holders that are
designed to allow diners to
distribute grains of edible salt
and ground peppercorns.
Significance : Salt and pepper shakers can be made from a variety of materials,
including plastic, glass, metal, and ceramic.

The telephone was invented to allow
two or more users/people to have a
conversation together if they are not
in the same place.
Significance : Many individuals
have claimed to have invented the
telephone so there is really no proof
that a certain individual has
invented the telephone.
