ANITA FIFITA

Logical Fallacy ; Straw Man and

False Cause.

STRAWMA
N
When you
misrepresent
someones argument
to make it easier to
attack.

Example 1.

People who think abortion should be

banned have no respect for the rights of
women. They treat them as nothing but
baby-making machines. That's wrong.
Women must have the right to choose.

Example 2.

Bill and Jill are arguing about cleaning out

their closets:

Jill: "We should clean out the closets. They are

getting a bit messy."
Bill: "Why, we just went through those closets
last year. Do we have to clean them out
everyday?"
Jill: "I never said anything about cleaning them
out every day. You just want too keep all your
junk forever, which is just ridiculous."

False Cause
You presume that a real or perceived
relationship between things means that
one is the cause of the other.

Example 1.

Every day, I eat cereal for breakfast. One

time, I had a muffin instead, and there
was a major earthquake in my city. I've
eaten cereal ever since.

Muffins and earthquakes have nothing to do

with each other

Example 2.

"Napoleon became a great emperor

because he was so short."

Height and Emperors have nothing to do with

each other. And if this was the case, all short
people would become emperors.
