I don't think he will have time to do it before noon as lunch only starts at 11:35 and I wouldn't want him to be rushed. What we could do is have him write the re-test in Advisory on Thursday and then he can complete it at lunch that same day if he needs to.
Thanks,

Hello
M has a redo for math. Is it possible for him to do this before noon (Wednesday April 9, 2014) because of a dental appt.( so does his siblings) or I can bring him back to school right after his appt. for him to do.Please let me know. thx I have to pick him up at noon.
Sorry for the short notice. On Saturday, April 5, 2014 8:50:01 AM, I am actually shocked to know that he is not doing well in this class.... especially... as he did tell me he likes this class He did redo the test here at home and I am not sure if his nerves get the best of him while he's doing the test at school... I have no clue. I appreciate the help. thx On Friday, April 4, 2014 10:27:16 PM, "smith, Kate" <katesmith@wqsb.qc.ca> wrote: Good evening,
I was happy to see M at school today working on his Math. I stopped in a couple of times this morning and he was focused on the work. Hopefully this will keep up as he is certainly capable of being successful in Math, he just needs to apply himself, and ask for support and clarification as soon as it is needed.
Have a great weekend,

I am not exactly sure what you would like me to tell you. I do HELP M here at work when the homework and assignments does make it home. I am at my wits end. So if he's going to fail the year because it has gone too far, I do not KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU. My frustration level has gone from 10 to 100. This email is to inform you that although a major improvement from the last test, M still struggled with the Algebra Test that was written earlier this week and got 53%. As this is term 3 and is worth 60% of the year (between the exam and term 3 mark), I really want to make sure that students are mastering the content. Algebra is of particular importance as it is essential in meeting success in the next topic of Solving Algebraic Equations.
That being said, I will be holding a tutorial session next Tuesday, April 8th at Noon in Room 244. Students must attend that session in order to re-write the test. The re- take will be on Wednesday, April 9th at lunch. Please note that in fairness to all students and to send the message that there will not always be a second chance, the highest mark that a student can obtain on the re-take is 65%. Students are also expected to spend some time at home preparing for the re-test as well.
The material covered for this test is in the workbook, page 1-30 where there are examples and extra practice questions.
Please dont hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
Kindest regards,

I am not asking for him to receive a higher mark. I want him to understand for the June evaluation like you said. I want him to be clear on whether or not the crew is suppose to be 30 m or 35m because he understood it as being the same perimeter as the solar panel but the height was 5 and not 6 as the solar panel. For my boy, he understand things differently and when I sit with him, I as a mom wants him to get it so he totally understand the reasoning behind it.thx
Good afternoon,
I have attached the rubric from the Ministry of Education that we must use when evaluating Situational Problems. A student cannot receive a higher level on the different criteria than that which they receive on the first one (Indication that the problem has been understood). I have highlighted the assessment of Ms work based on the fact that he did not realize the base of the pyramid with the solar panels was the same size as the base of the crew cabin. The diagram did show this as did the text: "The crew cabin is in the shape of a square-based prism, with a height of 5m and a perimeter equal to the perimeter of the base of the solar panels."
I realize that it is frustrating to work so hard and lose so many marks for one little error. Ultimately however, I do want students to be evaluated throughout the year so that they understand what will be expected of them on the final evaluation in June so that there are no surprises.
I told M he can bring the situational problem into Advisory tomorrow and I would be happy to go over it with him then or at Math Help during lunch hour.
Thanks!

Hi Kate
M was excited to see that he did well on his math problem, however a little disappointed as to how he came up with his answer but it was incorrect?. The solar panel height was 4 and base 6, perimeter was 24. The crew cabin perimeter was the same as the solar panel..with height of 5, therefore, he understood it as length would be 7 and not 6 as the solar panel? that's is why he did 7*5 as area being 35 and not 30. Can you please explain. thx
