New Printed Page Length Setup

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The management of the Form Length (FL) and Printed Page Length (PPL)
has been streamlined and consolidated in the Configuration Editor. The
changes make it easier to switch from one device to another and to
support several alternative FL's and PPL's for a particular device.
The Configuration Editor now shows the default FL and PPL values from
the TKDRIVER.CFG file when a device is selected. (You can change the
defaults by editing the appropriate lines in a segment of the
TKDRIVER.CFG file with information about the device you wish to select;
you should do so only after you create a backup copy of the
UTS-supplied TKDRIVER.CFG.)
Once you select a device and the default values of FL and PPL appear in
their fields, you can change them as needed. TK uses the values which
appear in the Configuration Editor rather than the original default
values.
The "Text File" option always uses the default values of the IBM/EPSON
printer, i.e. FL=66 and PPL=60.
Changes in the Global Sheet:
The Form Length and Printed Page Length fields no longer appear on the
Global Sheet. Consequently, paragraphs 2 through 6 on page 3-69 of the
Introduction Manual should be ignored.
The length information is now related to selected output devices. It
may be examined and changed in the appropriate columns of the
Configuration Editor.
Changes in the Configuration Editor:
There are two new columns in the driver specification part of the
Configuration Editor, which now appears as follows:
Printer Port- Device Driver- Name in Printer Menu---- Form Length- Page Length-
The explanation which should precede the last paragraph on p. 3-35 of
the Introduction Manual:
Form Length (f)
The form length is the total number of lines on the page. The setting,
generally, depends on the selected output device and desired page
layout. It may be any integer from 6 to 1000. The default setting for
Epson/IBM printers is 66, based on 6 lines per inch on an 11-inch page.
When the Use Page Break field in the Global Sheet is set to No (the
default), the form length setting is ignored. There will be no space
left between pages if the printed page length is equal or greater than
the form length.
Printed Page Length (l)
The printed page length is the number of lines of text which will be
printed on one page. Any integer from 6 to 1000 may be specified. The
default setting for Epson/IBM printers is 60 lines.
Using page numbers and using plot or table titles will each take up two
lines from the printed page length. There will be no space left
between pages if the printed page length is equal or greater than the
form length.
N o t e 1 :
The PV uses the Page Length for the first printer entry for drawing page
break lines and showing page numbers. If the first printer entry is blank, no
page break lines appear and no page numbers are shown. If you select the
"Pages" item from the PV print options menu while there is no first printer
entry, he/she receives the "No printer devices are configured" error message,
even though there may actually be others below the blank first line. If there
is a first printer entry, the lines printed will correspond to the pages
currently shown on the PV, even if you choose to print on a device with a
different page length.
Example: <Something meaningful, a popular laser printer, Postscript, etc.>
In the Configuration Editor, the ! key moves the printer entry under the
cursor to the top; the cursor does not move. If the cursor is in the header,
! just causes a beep.
N o t e 2 :
If any of your existing macros serve setting and resetting of the Form Length
and Page Length, they will have to be modified according to the changes in
the Global Sheet and Configuration Editor described above.
