Summary of The Cold War
The Cold War was a period 0f time where there was political tension
between the U.S and S.U.
Theories for causes of the cold war.
The U.S. and S.U. had a disagreement on how the shambled and ravaged
Europe should be rebuilt.
The U.S. had failed to give military aid to Russia during WWII, stating they
were too far away.
Cuban Missile Crisis
The U.S. discovered the Soviets building missile bases on Cuban soil, a
country very close to the U.S.
Long term consequences
Countries were coerced into picking
a side (Communism or capitalism.)
Many small microwars were fought
in other countries, such as Vietnam,
Korea, and the Middle east.
NATO
Short for North Atlantic Treaty Organization, this was
an alliance between capitalist countries to stop the
spread of communism.
Warsaw pact
An alliance between many countries to stop the spread
of capitalism, this was essentially NATOs communist
counterpart.
The Vietnam War
Communist North Vietnam attempted to invade South
Vietnam, causing America to intervene in order to stop
communism spreading.
Korean War
Similar to Vietnam, the Korean War was North Koreas attempted invasion of South Korea, with
U.S. and China intervention.
War in Afghanistan
The S.U. had attempted to invade Afghanistan, who was an ally of the U.S. at the time. This set off a
chain of events that caused an American tragedy.
Duck and Cover
This was an educational program that aimed to teach the youth on how to minimize their damage should
a nuclear bomb be dropped.
