Advantages and disadvantages
In each relay race, the Socs got the
advantages while the Greasers got the
disadvantages. For example, in the Chair Race
the Socs were able to play with two legs. In the
Sleeping Bag Pull, they could use both hands to
pull and in the Jumping Jacks, they only had to do 8 jumping jacks
instead of 10 at each end. The advantages and disadvantages made me
feel like everything was unfair and it shouldnt be that way. This game is
a smaller picture and idea of what is happening in the real world. In the
game, I wanted the rules to change so that everything could be fair and
equal but I couldnt, because everything was originally set up that way
for my team to get the disadvantages. Same thing with the Greasers,
they couldnt change their place in the society or to get the Socs to
treat them with respect.

Stereotyping
Stereotyping can easily lead to many conflicts between people
and groups of people. Stereotypes are not true all of the time and they
can greatly offend someone. They are generalizations and assumptions
made by people due to misinformation. It is hurtful to be judged
because of the way you look or what you like or what you do. Individuals
should not be judged based on the group that they are in because often
it is sending the wrong image. Instead of judging a book by its cover,
you should really get to know the person. For example, a stereotype
could be someone must be very smart if they always get straight As.
That is not true because I get straight As all the time and I wouldnt
really consider myself to be a super smart person. Another stereotype
would be that elderly people are very forgetful. This could sometimes be
true for elderly people but I do know a few old people that have very
good memory and never would forget any events that had happened
before.

If It Was Me...
If Johnny and Ponyboy came to ask me for help instead of
Dally, I would first take them into my house. I would ask them what
happened and think of a way to help them. I would get them warmed
up and give them a warm drink. I would tell with Johnny and Ponyboy
to first run away and hide for now, away from the city but also not
too far away. I would give them some food, games and books for
entertainment if they ever get bored. I would tell them that I will
keep an eye on how people are taking in this
crime. I would visit them from time to time
to make sure that they are doing well.
Later on, I would go and find Soda, Darry
and Johnnys parents to tell them what
happened and see how they would react to
what Johnny and Ponyboy did.

Nothing Gold Can Stay
I think in the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay, Robert Frost is trying
to say that nothing good can last forever. This poem relates to the
events and characters that happened in The Outsiders, especially
Ponyboy because once Ponyboy is part of the crime that Johnny
committed, he has lost his youth and innocence. This connects to one
of the four themes weve explored from the novel and that is the
journey from youth to adulthood. Ponyboy is no longer able to go back
to the character he was before the crime. He has already sort of grew
out of youth and cant really turn back to being a innocent child.
I think this poem is not supposed to be a sad
poem, but also not a happy poem. I think that
Robert Frost is trying to inform the readers
about what will happen and what everyone will
experience in their lives.

What Makes a Hero
What makes a hero is when someone does something right even when they are not required to do so, its when
they are willing to take a risk. I think that when we say He/she is my hero, its saying about a person that has done
something brave and good for you. For example, like saving your life. In The Outsiders, Dally talks to Johnny about
jail, we learn that he is very thoughtful and cares a lot about Johnny, not wanting him to have the same, unpleasant
experience as he did. He is very brave to go into the burning church to save Johnny, I think that he wouldve done the
same thing for Pony and Darry but not a Soc. I think this because he is friends with Pony and Darry but does not like
Socs.
1. There are two reasons that Dally gives to try and convince Johnny to not turn himself in. In the book, Dally tells
Johnny, I just dont want you to get hurt. (p.89) and you get hardened in jail. I dont want that to happen to you.
Like it happened to me... (p.90)
2. Johnnys behavior inside the burning church is ironic because usually, if you are in a burning church you would be
sacred to death but Johnny was actually having fun and not scared.
3. Johnnys behavior inside the burning church is also not ironic because he is saving many lives, so he is happy about
what he is doing.
4. It is ironic that Pony wanted to take off Dallys jacket because the jacket actually ended up saving Ponys life.
5. It is ironic when Jerry says "...Or are you just professional heroes or
something?" because Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally have commited crimes before and they are nowhere near being a hero.
6. He was stroking my hair and I could hear the sobs racking him as he fought to keep back the tears. Oh, Pony, I
thought wed lost you... like we did Mom and Dad... At the end of chapter 6, Pony finally realize that Darry really
cares about him.
7. S.E. Hinton used humor to take the edge off the seriousness of the fire in the church. For example, Johnny
made fun of Jerry in the burning church by saying to Pony that the reason Jerry couldnt get in was because he was
too fat to fit through the window.

Stay Gold
Johnny was very weak and reel when he was dying, his last words
were, Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold and then he died. I think that
he was telling Ponyboy to fortify, stay young, stay innocent and be
himself. He wanted Ponyboy to keep on doing the things that he did, like
watching sunsets, reading books or watching movies. He wanted Ponyboy
to live life to the fullest and be thankful for what life has to give him
even if bad things happen. Johnny wanted Ponyboy to stay the way he
is and never change. I think that Ponyboy will not concord to it and will
not be able to follow it because no matter what, he will have to keep
on moving and he wont be able to stay young or innocent forever.
