Hello Families!! It's amazing how fast the first week of school went by!! I have really enjoyed getting to know your child and working with your child. We have accomplished a lot in this first week of school. Students learned what is expected of them right away in the morning when they arrive into the classroom and what is expected of them before leaving the classroom for the day. We've also discussed the different classroom jobs and responsibilities that students can take part of on a monthly basis. Also, your child has written his/her own hope and dream for fifth grade and taped it onto the classroom "Hope and Dream" wall. Ask your child what hope and dream he/she wrote for this year! To give every classmate an opportunity to reach his/her desired hope and dream, we brainstormed and came up with a couple of rules to follow in our classroom (see on the left). We also discussed possible consequences for breaking the classroom rules, including chills in the classroom, demerits, and buddy slips. Ask your child what each of those consequences are. This week many students participated in safety patrol. Being a safety patrol is a wonderful privilege that comes with big responsibilities. Keep in mind that once any safety receives his/her 16th demerit, he/she will no longer be eligible to be on patrol and will lose safety patrol related field trips, such as the Wisconsin Dells trip.
