DESCRIPTION
Situation
Following the success of two Single Well
Assisted Gravity Drainage (SW-SAGD) wells,
the client piloted a Dual Well Steam Assisted
Gravity Drainage (DW-SAGD) well pair
in 1997.
Objective
To obtain operational data for the design and
drilling of horizontal wells and for sand
containment and control of SAGD producers.
To gather critical performance data for the
design and operation of future SAGD projects.
Results
PROMORE's MORE
C
(Casing Conveyed) Well
Monitoring Systems provided the data to
evaluate the effectiveness of steam injection
concurrent with production.
Real-time pressure data indicated that
drawdown was minimal as should be the case
with an ideal SAGD operation.
Pressure and temperature data indicated
produced fluids were cooling in the reservoir
before being produced, reducing the chance
of pumping system cavitation.
Bottomhole pressure due to injection reached
a maximum of 3,930 kPa, safely under the
sand face fracture pressure of 4200 kPa.
