Standards 7: Early Childhood Field Experiences

7a. Opportunities to observe and practice in at least two of the three early childhood age
groups (birth age 3, 3-5, 5-8)
Course: Experience with the Young Children 1, 2 (ECED2020, ECED 3070)

As student teacher, facing the first classroom experience was in course of experience
1 (ECED2020) at Child Care Centre .Although it was overwhelming experience, but it helped
me later. My learning experience of teaching children started gradually by applying four
activities with four children. I liked two started by this point because my prior experience was
very limited. On the other hand, I take advantages of doing observation of children learning
process and the observation room at Child Care center was effective.
Three courses later, I had other training at Child Care Center in Arabic and English
classes. It prepared and supported me to be student teachers as I entered the real world of
educating young children. I taught preschoolers (age 3, 8 - 5, ). In these three courses I gained
practices and experiences in following the daily routine, schedule, rules, outdoor/gym play,
and other strategies that I should follow to guide children to better learning program.
Although I faced many challenging such as : dealing with childrens misbehaviours, helping
children to be an active learners and scaffolding them rather than direct student learning,
feeling frustrating when we faced some failures and, etc but that influenced in my growth and
development as a teacher.
In future, I hope to transfer theoretical knowledge to applied practice through the field
work. In addition, I am planning to read more books, attend workshops related to childrens
world in order to improve my skills in dealing, teaching, and interacting with children.
