Lauren Henson completed her field experience for teaching during the 2014 winter semester through the University of Michigan Flint. I had the privilege of working with her as a supervisor of student teachers for that semester. I periodically observed Lauren teaching in a fourth grade classroom. Each observation was followed by a conference reflecting on the lesson that was taught. Lauren also attended seminars that I co led. Philosophies and methods regarding best teaching practices were explored during those meetings. Each time I observed Lauren in the classroom, I was consistently impressed with every facet of her teaching. Her plans were detailed and thoughtfully designed. Target objectives were clear and data driven. She delivered engaging instruction utilizing multiple modes of learning and a variety of strategies. Her lessons were never mundane and assessments were ongoing. Lauren was keenly intent on keeping one hundred per cent of her students focused and on task. She optimized student success by skillfully managing her classroom. She was poised, positive, caring and her expectations were clear and reasonable. She was attentive to individual student need. Lauren displays a high degree of professional and personal integrity. She is a talented educator and exhibits a strong work ethic. I believe a school district would find her to be an asset in any collaborative setting and an inspiration to many.
