Autism : Children who have a more highly functional diagnosis of autism spectrum

disorder have autism disorder. They have more severe impairments and repetitive
behaviors. In some cases the child is diagnosed with mental retardation and
seizures. Children and adults with autism disorder may engage in self-mutation
such as eye gouging biting their arms and legs and may show little to no
sensitivity to burns or bruises.

Aspergers: Aspergers syndrome is the absolute mildest form of autism spectrum
disorder. Aspergers is known to affect boys 3 times more than
girls.(www.webMD.com) Children with Aspergers syndrome are very highly
interested in one object or topic they will often learn all about the subject and
talk about it nonstop. Their social skills are impaired and often uncoordinated
they have normal to above average intelligence most doctors call it high
functioning autism when children with Aspergers become adults they are at high
risk for anxiety and depression.
Pervasive Development Disorder Not otherwise specified is a diagnosis where
children who have a more server symptoms then Aspergers and less than autism
disorder. This disorder applies to most people with ASD. They have better
language skills then children with autism disorder but not as well as people with
Aspergers. They do not have as many repetitive behaviors as either. Symptoms of
PDD-NOS often start to show at a later age than any of the rest of the diagnosis. If
the child does not have all of the symptoms of Autism disorder it is usually PDD-
NOS
Retts syndrome affects more girls than boys but it is very rare 12,500 girls develop
this server form of autism (www.autismsociety.com) signs of Retts syndrome stat
to show at the ages 6-18 months. The child starts to loose social skills then stops
responding and wrings her hands habitually. Head Growth slows down by 24
months it is far smaller than a normal childs head Retts is caused by a genetic
mutation it randomly occurs it is not inherited.
Childhood Distingrative Disorder is the most server form of autism spectrum
disorder and thankfully the least common. The child develops normally until the
ages 2-4 then rapidly loses a lot of areas of function. The child loses social,
language, coordination and intellectual abilities. The child who has it often
develops seizure disorder. The children are severely impaired and they dont
recover their lost functions. Less than 2 in 100,000 children that are diagnosed
with ASD are diagnosed with CDD. (www.webMD.com) Boys are affected by CDD
more often than girls.

Scientists have not quite proved something to be a cause yet but with new
technology they hope they soon will. Everyone has their own belief on what
causes Autism Spectrum Disorder. Some people think it has to do with vaccines,
Surrounding and, Genetics. The people who believe it has to do with vaccines is
because signs of ASD around the age of 2 which is the ages when kids get shots. It
is known that when identical twins are born and one has Autism 9/10 times the
other child does to (www.nimh.nih.gov) Environmental factors is talking about
anything outside of the body. That includes surroundings in the mothers womb.
It is simple to notice if your child has ASD unless of course the child has Aspergers
(The most mild of all the diagnoses.) The children have a very distinct personality
they may have unhealthy attachments to things normal children do not, such as a
clothes hanger. They are also very socially awkward they will not talk to adults or
other children. Some children do not develop mentally at the same pace as others
their age but if your child doesnt talk instantly dont jump to conclusion but if
they dont talk or listen by the age of 4 or 5 you should get them checked.
A speech teacher evaluates for signs of ASD by speech and communication
abilitys they also look for the impairments. Another form of diagnosis is Cognitive
testing they are given a standard intelligence test. For Adaptive Functioning
Assessments they test social verbal non-verbal and everyday skills such as
dressing and feeding themselves.
You have a very wide range of choices for treatments. You have early intervention
for autism Aspergers and PDD but for retts you have a choice of physical and
speech therapy. Speech and physical therapy will just make a slight improvement
it will not help recover the child fully. There is no cure for
CDD.(WWW.WebMD.com)
