How to register The Rosetta Stone
If you have not already done so, install the software as you would any other application. The installation routine
will automatically install The Rosetta Stone. In addition, if not present on your system, Apple QuickTime and
Adobe Acrobat will be installed on your system.
After you restart your computer, The Rosetta Stone will be ready for use. You can begin using it right away in
Demonstration Mode without registration. However, to unlock the full power of the program and to access all
of the lessons, you must register it.
Heres how.
1) Start the program. At the Login Screen, click the small key icon to start the registration process.
2) A popup window will appear, as shown below. Note the Product ID code. You will need to enter this code in
an email or fax message to the publisher (or authorized representative) in order to receive the License Key.

3) Fill out the simple form found on the Installation CD-ROM in the Register directory. The form is
provided in various languages and formats for your convenience.

4) Send (email, fax or regular mail) the registration information to the Publisher or Authorized Representative.
The contact information is listed on the next page.
5) We will send a License Key to the address you specify on the registration form. You must use this key to
enable the full functionality of the Rosetta Stone program.
6) After you receive the License Key, start the Rosetta Stone. At the Login Screen, again click on the small
icon of the key. (This is the same icon you used before.) In the space labeled License Key enter the key
you received. Then click OK. At this point the full functionality of Rosetta Stone will be enabled for your
system.

Other Questions
1) Why is registration required?
In many countries, a very high percentage of software in use is an illegal (pirated) copy. This means that the
software developer and the distribution network did not receive payment for their work. Using current
technology, there is no way to prevent illegal copying of our CD-ROM. For this reason, we have implemented
the required registration process to help stop software piracy of our program.
2) What if I choose not to register?
The program will continue to function in Demonstration Mode indefinitely. Thus, you will be able to access a
small number of lessons. But until you register your copy, you can not access the full set of lessons.
3) Can I reinstall the software on my machine?
Yes. You can uninstall and reinstall the software to the same machine multiple times. However, if you make a
major upgrade to your system, you may need to contact the publisher (or authorized representative) to obtain a
new License Key. (In this case, follow the same procedure you used to register the software the first time.)
4) What happens if I bought an illegal copy?
Please report this to the appropriate representatives listed on the previous page. It may be possible to upgrade to
a legal copy, which will allow you to enjoy the full power of The Rosetta Stone.
5) What happens if I lose my License Key?
Please contact the appropriate representative (listed on the previous page). After receiving proof of purchase we
will give you a new License Key.
6) Can I copy the CD-ROM and give it to a friend?
No. This would violate the license and also violate international copyright laws.
7) How can I see my License Key later?
Just click on the key icon, and the pop-up window will show the License Key. You can click the OK or the
Cancel button to exit. (See below.)

Possible Error Messages
There are several error messages that you might receive.
1) Trying to access a lesson before Registration is completed
If you try to access a lesson that is not included in the Demonstration Mode of operation, then you will get the
following pop-up error message.
The only solution is to register the program. You can initiate this process on the Login Screen, as described
above.
2) Entering an invalid License Key
If you enter an invalid License Key, you will get the following pop-up error message.
In this case, try the following:
a) Double check the License Key on the product packaging. Did you enter it exactly as shown?
b) If re-entering the License Key does not work, you will need to contact the Publisher or Authorized
Representative for assistance.
4) Missing CD-ROM in drive
If the application program can not find the data CD-ROM, it will issue the following pop-up message:
This message can occur for two reasons.
Y If you forget to put the CD-ROM in the drive, you will get the error message. You must either click
Cancel or insert the appropriate CD-ROM in the drive.
Y You may see this pop-up message while your CD-ROM drive is spinning up to speed. (This is particularly
true for slower CD-ROM drives.) This is normal wait for a few seconds and the message will go away.

EXPLANATION OF ENTRIES
Contact name: This is your name or the name of the person who will be listed in our database as the `registered
user' of the software.
Fax number or address: We will use this to send you the Unlock Code. You must provide an email address, a
postal address, or a fax number. We can not release Unlock Codes over the telephone.
Serial Number: You will find this 12-digit code in the product packaging. Check the CD-ROM jewel case.
Language: The language you are registering (for example, English)
Level: The level of the language CD you are registering (either Level 1 or Level 2).
Product ID(ID): This is the number generated by the Registration Process in the main program. To
obtain a product ID you must run the Rosetta Stone program, then click the small 'key' icon on the Login Screen.
