Defining relative clauses
Give essential information.
They never take commas.
That can replace which and who.
The relative pronoun can be omitted if its the
object of the clause.
Ex: The book (which) you bought yesterday
The man (who) I saw ..

Non-defining relative clauses
Give extra information.
Commas are used to separate the clause
from rest of the sentence.
That is never used after a comma.

Relative pronouns + prepositions
In formal English, a preposition is needed
before whom or which. In informal English, the
preposition goes at the end of the clause.
Ex:
That is the actor who everyone is talking about.
That is the actor about whom everyone is
talking.
