Standard 5

There is no more an important place to hold high expectations for being ethical
than a school. All staff members must model ethics and integrity to everyone with whom
they interact. Thus, the importance of ELCC standard ve. These qualities are promoted
by the principal.
Treating students fairly is something that all educators should be doing. Fair does
not mean the same. One student may something different to achieve the same goal.
Such is the case with students with special needs. My ability to be ethical and
appropriate is demonstrated through my paper on assistive technology for students with
special needs. Being an advocate for these students is part of any principal"s job.
Another aspect of showing integrity and ethics, is my ability to research and
respond to hypothetical questions that challenge the ethical lines. Having the ability to
nd research and data to support my rationale is something that I will need to do, which
is why it is part of the standard. Being able to respond in professional and ethical ways
to all stakeholders will further exude integrity.
The instructional leader in any building must promote ethics and integrity. Being a
trustworthy role model will not only help staff but students. This is a key element
because far to often it is lacking. If we want our students to have integrity, we must also.
