FieldTripsandExcursions
TheLongmeadowPublicSchoolsencouragesfieldtripsforitsstudentsaspartofitstotal
educationalprogram.Fieldtripsshouldeitherbecurriculumrelated,orbepartofanapproved
extracurricularactivity.
Whenthefieldtripistobepartofthecurriculum,appropriateintroductorydiscussionsshould
beheldandfollowupactivitiesshouldtakeplaceattheconclusionofthetrip.
Studentsmaybechargedafeetocoverthecost,orpartofthecost,ofthefieldtrip.
Reasonableeffortsshallbetakentosecurethesafetyandwelfareofstudentsonschool
approvedfieldtrips,notonlyenroutebutalsoduringallstopoveractivities.Theteachers,
advisors,andadministratorsshallberesponsibleforseeingthatnecessarysafetyandwelfare
measuresaretaken.
ONEDAYFIELDTRIPS
1. Chaperonecoverage:Inadditiontotheclassroomteacheroradvisor,inmostcases,
thereshallbeadditionaladultsupervisiontoachievearatioofoneadultforeveryten
students.
2. Parental/Guardianpermission:Allstudentsmustsubmittotheirteacheroradvisorin
chargeofthefieldtripapermissionformsignedbytheirparent/guardian.
3. Administrationapproval:Beforeanytripcanbefinalizedanddiscussedwithfieldtrip
participants,approvalmustbeobtainedfromthedepartmentchairperson,Principal
and/ortheirdesignee,andtheSuperintendentofSchoolsand/ortheirdesignee.
Permissiontogoonafieldtripwillbegrantedordeniedaftertheteacheroradvisor
completestheappropriateforms.
OVERNIGHTFIELDTRIPS
1. Chaperonecoverage:Inadditiontotheclassroomteacheroradvisor,inmostcases,
thereshallbeadditionaladultsupervisiontoachievearatioofoneadultforeveryten
students.
2. Parental/Guardianpermission:Allstudentsmustsubmittotheirteacheroradvisorin
chargeofthefieldtripapermissionformsignedbytheirparent/guardian.
3. Administrationapproval:Beforeanytripcanbefinalizedanddiscussedwithfieldtrip
participants,approvalmustbeobtainedfromthedepartmentchairperson,Principal
and/ortheirdesignee,andtheSuperintendentofSchoolsand/ortheirdesignee.
Permissiontogoonafieldtripwillbegrantedordeniedaftertheteacheroradvisor
completestheappropriateforms.Alloutofstateorextended(overnight)tripsand
excursionsmusthaveadvanceapprovaloftheSchoolCommittee,exceptthoserequired
forstudentparticipationintournamentcompetitionorcontestswhichwouldrequire
theapprovaloftheSuperintendentand/ortheirdesignee.
4. Anychaperoneaccompanyinganovernightfieldtripmustcomplywiththebackground
checkpolicyofthedistrict(policyADDA).
