Ford, Jason A. (2014) Poor Health, Strain, and Substance Use, Deviant Behavior,
35:8, 654-667
The author is saying that drug use is positively related to poor health. He found that health was
closely related to drug use. However the author mentioned that those that had less negative
health conditions were at a higher risk for drinking heavily. He explained this by saying that
often, heavy drinking is caused by peer pressure, and those who are healthy are more likely to be
near friends. On the other side they found that misuse of marijuana and prescription drugs were
higher among those felt that their health was lacking. Last, it seems that those with bad health
also felt that they had poor mental health. The findings imply that drug use is high among those
who consider themselves to be in poor health, and if your mental health is poor it is likely that
your physical health is poor. I dont have too many critiques, but I dont understand what the
implications of this research are as far as mental health goes. It says that bad mental health leads
to bad physical health, but I dont really understand why it correlates.

Stone, Maggie McCandless(2014) This Could Be a Good Avenue for You:
Influential Strategies in the Hiring of Exotic Dancers, Deviant Behavior, 35:9, 727-741

This is a study of the hiring process of exotic dancers. She observed interviews at several
different places. 25 to be exact. They used several techniques to try to persuade her to dance.
They said things like dancer positions available, promises of financial gain, flattery,
encouragement and support. She was most often looking for waitress positions. This study
gave us an insight into the hiring process of exotic dancing. It also showed the individual
recruitment strategies. This study will aid in other studies. It also shows that, apparently, its not
that hard to be hired as an exotic dancer. My main critique is that the main implications of this
research were to fill a void in research. There was nothing in this report that was grandiose, or
and large finding in this, but it did serve a purpose.
