Style Sheet for Authors in the Nietzsche-Studien

Font and Formats


Text body: 12pt Times New Roman, footnotes and indented paragraphs: 10 pt Times New Roman
Center Justified
Spacing after all punctuation marks (.,:;), as well, before f. and ff.


Citations

General Guidelines
- Citation of words, phrases, and sentences in double quotation marks
- Citation of longer passages without quotation marks, indented, 10 pt petit
- Ellipsis are marked by three dots in square brackets
- Additions made by the author are placed in square brackets
- Titles mentioned within the text in italics, but not in the bibliographic notes
- No usage of SMALL CAPS
- Only the usage of the Siglen according to the List of Siglen provided in every volume of the Nietzsche
Studien is allowed
- Additional Siglen used in the text to be explained in a footnote

Citations Nietzsche
- Citation of Nietzsches writings according to KGW or KSA, KGB or KSB respectively, quotation shall
be verbatim
- Emphasis placed by Nietzsche according to KGW/KSA or KGB / KSB respectively should be
presented spaced not in italics. To write spaced please use the toolbar and do not use the space bar
- References to Nietzsches published works and Nietzsches works intended for publication within
the text should be done using KGW / KSA with the sigle of the works and the number of the
paragraph / aphorism
- When citing longer passages or aphorisms (more than three pages), please provide in addition to the
Sigle and the number of the paragraph the corresponding volume of the KGW / KSA and the page
number
- References to Nietzsches Nachlass within the text should be done by giving the year of the Nachlass,
KGA / KSA volume and notation number, when using longer notations (three pages or more) please
cite the page number
- References to letters to and from Nietzsche within the text should be given according to KGB / KSB
by citing the sender and addressee, the date, the KGB / KSB volume and number of the letter
- References to longer letters (three pages or more) should include the page number as well
- When citing the same letter repeatedly, please give the KGB / KSB volume and the number of the
letter
- When citing translations from Nietzsches writings, please offer in addition to the source the
corresponding original according to KGW / KSA or KGB / KSB respectively (only, if the English
siglen are not provided according to the list of siglen)

Citations from Classical Authors and Classical Texts
References to classical texts and philosophical standard texts according to standard editions, if appropriate
by providing the name of the translator and the editor, together with the book and the paragraph or page

Citations from and reference to research literature
(For manuscripts provided in French or English, the following instructions are to be used analogously.
Abbreviation should be provided in the language used.)

- When citing a book for the first time, please provide in a footnote the following: First name last
name, title. Subtitle, edition (if applicable), place year, p. page number (no quotation marks, no
italics)
- When citing an essay from a collection for the first time, please provide the following in a footnote:
First name last name, title of the article, in: First name last name of the editor (ed.), title of the
volume, edition (if applicable), place year, p. page number of the whole essay, p. page number of the
quote (no quotation marks, no italics)
- When citing an article from a journal for the first time, please provide the following in a footnote:
First name last name, title of the article, in: title of the journal number of issue (year), p. page numbers
of the whole article, p. page number of the quote (no quotation marks, no italics)
- Repeated quotations should be accompanied by the following information in a footnote: Last name,
abbreviated tile, p. page number, when following in the next footnote: ibid., p. page number
- Multiple authors, editors, or places of publication should be separated by forward slashes: Place name
/ Place name


Bibliographic information in book reviews
Information according to the guidelines provided for research literature, the following information need to
be added: publisher, number of pages, ISBN: First name last name, title. Subtitle, edition (if applicable),
place (publisher) year, number of pages, ISBN.
