Overview

Art I serves the fulfillment of the fine art credit requirement to graduate. In this
course, students will apply various media, techniques, and processes in the
areas of art production and will develop their skills to analyze artworks. They
will discover how concepts, enduring themes, and societal issues relate to the
visual arts. This is a performance based course.
Goals
The goal for students in this course will be to meet the standards outlined by the
state of Tennessee for Visual Art I.
Standard 1: Students will understand and apply media, techniques, and
processes.
Standard 2: Students will use knowledge of both structures and functions; which
address the foundational Elements & Principles of art.
Standard 3: Students will choose and evaluate a range of subject matter,
symbols, and ideas.
Standard 4: Students will understand the visual arts in relation to history and
cultures.
Standard 5: Students will reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits
of their work and the work of others.
Standard 6: Students will make connections between visual arts and other
disciplines.
Requirements
All students are to adhere to the rules and regulations outlined by SCS school
system and Overton High School, as outlined in the Code of Conduct Policy.
Sketchbooks and pencils must be brought everyday in class.

Important Dates
VARIOUS
Sketchbook assignments will be
collected on Fridays. Quarterly
calendars will be available via website
with assignments noted.
*Assignments maybe added at various
times throughout the quarter.
WEEKLY REFLECTIONS
Reflection on Art Criticism, Notes &
Analysis will be recorded as bell work
throughout each week in their
sketchbooks.
ABSENCES
Work will be permitted no later than
one week following the absence. It is
the students responsibility to check
with teacher for assignments and
obtain information regarding what
was missed in class.
