A Long, Orange Finger

By Colleen Messina
I live in your garden, but you
don't see the best part of me right
away. You have to dig me up! I
grow from seeds that are quite
tiny. I have fluffy, green leaves
that stick out of the ground. The
part of me that is underground
looks like a long, orange finger. I
reach deep into the soil. Isn't it
funny that I am also called a
finger food for people to eat! I am
crisp, crunchy, and delicious. I am
a vegetable. I also end up in
salads. Bunnies love me, too. In the land of cartoons, Bugs Bunny
often nibbles on me. Can you figure out what I am?
