Book Proposal

Proposal

The students of SAUL spend 30 weeks of each year working on projects based in the Limerick area. Many of
these projects provide possible solutions and new ways of thinking about many of Limerick’s problems; social,
infrasructural and cultural. However, many of these ideas never leave the design studio, and are only seen by
SAUL tutors, students and guest critics. As a result, the population of Limerick (both student and native) have
no idea of the work that is produced or the ideas that are proposed to develop the city. This means that thou-
sands of hours of thinking about and developing ideas never actually leave the studio, and are lost once the
semester ends.

What I propose is a booklet is compiled which briefly summarises the fundamental ideas of each students
project. The booklets would be inexpensive so that they could be distributed throughout the city in cafes, res-
taurants, pubs etc, where members of the general public could pick up a copy, and read about the school and
the ideas for their city which we are developing.
Contents
Excluding general intoductions, the book would be limited to two pages per student project. This would keep
costs to a minimum, but it is also because it should be a book that somone would flick through to get a general
overview of the projects, rather than having to read through masses of information, much of which would be
uninteresting to members of the general public.

Each project would have a brief written description, and two images that would explain the key elements of
the project.
