Scenario #7: Culture Fair You decide to hold a culture fair one day afterschool and want to invite the children's' parents and community members. You would like the children to set up booths with different foods, costumes, information and facts, sports, maps and other artifacts to represent various countries or regions in the world. Take a look at the various cultural backgrounds of your students and then plan your culture fair. 1) You want to divide the class into groups, so they can work together. What type of grouping would you use and why? Specifically, what students in your classroom would you put together? 2) You want to invite the parents and community members to the event, so you create a letter/flyer/newsletter for the event. What would it look like? Bring your ideas to class next week to discuss and turn in.
Assign each grade a country.
First Grade: Japan Second Grade: China Third Grade: India Fourth Grade: Guatemala Fifth Grade: Mexico Staff: U.S.A
The countries may also be suggested by teachers if they have many students from a different country than the one assigned. I would assign each grade to gather items from that specific country they were assigned. By assigning a whole grade to a country they will be able to help each other gather foods, items, posters, and art from that specific country. They can get foods from that country by having parents volunteer to cook and donate items or they can buy packaged foods from the country assigned. The teachers from that grade would have to talk and decide who will provide what and have each student participate even if it is by creating art from the country assigned.
The display of the items would be in the gymnasium. Friends and Family would be invited through a letter which would be distributed by the teacher and sent home. Everyone in the school would participate. As friends and family entered the gymnasium they would be given a passport so they make sure they travel to every country around the gymnasium. Someone would be assigned to each country to hole punch the passport of anyone who visits.
