Theoretical Base for Practice

Throughout my time in the nursing program I have gained knowledge on the

science and theory in nursing. The nursing program has taught me different
types of theories that relate to nursing how to incorporate them into caring for
patients. I have met the nursing objective of Ferris State niversities Bachelor of
Science in !ursing by integrating theories into my assignments in providing
e"planations of what they mean and how they relate to nursing.
The two items I placed under this tab are my service learning poster and
my senior seminar outline. #y service learning poster was worked on
collaboratively with my service learning group. Five other nursing students and I
went to $uatemala for one week to volunteer and provide medical assistance for
our project. I believe this poster represents a good e"ample of a theoretical
based assignment. The purpose was to design a poster that demonstrated a
summary of our trip to $uatemala and evidence to support it. In our poster we
used the %eininger&s Theory of 'ulture 'are (iversity to because it promoted
cultural competence in the healthcare world for diverse individuals. The ne"t
assignment listed was my senior seminar presentation. I presented using an
outline instead of a power point presentation) which I have listed. #y
presentation was on complementary alternative medicine specifically focusing on
yoga) massage) and meditation and how they can relieve stress among nurses. I
had to come up with two theories for this assignment) one nursing theory and
one non nursing theory to support my research. I used Betty !euman&s System
Theory *nursing theory+ and #aslows ,ierarchy of !eeds *non-nursing theory+ to
emphasi.e complementary alternative medicine and the benefits it has. These
items demonstrate I understand theoretical based nursing and can properly
integrate it into my nursing care.
