The Transfiguration of our Lord

Let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Mark 10:4
Sunday, August 3, 2014 Volume 2, Issue 31
Just a kid! Just a kid! Just a kid! Just a kid!
If you listen to the Gospel
lesson today, youll hear a
story you probably know
pretty well. Its the story of
the feeding of the 5,000. Thats
when Jesus taught a huge crowd
of people. Then, when the peo-
ple got hungry, He took 5 loaves
of bread and 2 fish and multi-
plied them.
Then, there was enough food for
everybody! Most of us know this miracle story. But do you remember
where Christ got the bread and fish? A boy gave it to Him. Now how could
just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish help such a big crowd? Maybe some peo-
ple laughed at the boy. It did seem kind of silly, but the boy wanted to
help. And then look what happened!
Sometimes, its hard for us to think of how we can help at church. Were
just kids...what can we do? But we can always think of the boy in this
story. Remember, when we try to help God and His church, even a little
bit, God is ready to do the rest!

BLESSING OF THE GRAPES
THE FIRST FRUITS
Have you ever eaten grapes in
church? Maybe...when you
were a little kid? But on one day
of the Church year, we all have
grapes at church!
On Wednesday, we will celebrate
the great feastday of the Transfigu-
ration. Thats the day when Jesus
Christ went up on Mount Tabor
and a great light shone around
Him. The light was so bright that Jesuss disciples fell to the ground!
God the Father was showing that Jesus was God.
After the service on the Transfiguration, your priest will probably
bless a big bowl of grapes. We have this special service at this time
of year because thats when all the nice summer fruit gets ripe. We
thank God for the fruit and all the good things He gives to us. We
ask Him to bless it for us.
This is one way you can get involved at church. Ask your parents if
you can bring a bowl of grapes, too! Then you can share it with eve-
rybody, thanking God for all the things we have.
We celebrate this great feastday on Wednesday, August 6th.
