A report was tabled at the most recent Council meeting showing comparisons of the end of season admission numbers for the past three pool seasons for all swimming facilities within the shire. The refurbished Parkes Pool opened to the pub- lic on October 14, 2012, and immediately attracted increased numbers. Numbers for that season (2012/13) including general admissions and season ticket holders to- talled 51,583 well up on the previous season of 40,477. (This figure included 21,815 general admissions and 29,768 season ticket users). Admissions rose again this past season with numbers totalling 53,887 (24,533 general admis- sions, 29,354 season ticket users). Shire pools at Peak Hill, Trundle and Tullamore also benefited from increased usage throughout the 2012/13 season compared to the previous year. This past season saw Trundle pool the only one to register a downturn in numbers (8,436 for 2012/13 6,154 in 2013/14). Figures for Peak Hill and Tullamore were up as follows: * Peak Hill 6,647 for the 2012/13 season 7,249 2013/14. * Tullamore 6,182 (2012/13) 6,507 (2013/14). While admission numbers were up, revenue gen- erated was down on the budgeted figure. The 2013 original budgeted operating revenue for the four shire pools was $317,734 which was later amended to $295,047 during the quarterly budget review. Fewer purchases of season tickets are blamed for the fall in revenue which totalled $174,628 made up largely of $137,505 from the Parkes Pool. The total figure was down on the $185,492 ($143,590 from Parkes) for the 2012/13 season. Principal loan repayments for the Parkes pool for the financial year ended, June 30, 2014, will amount to $168,992. (Parkes Shire Council borrowed $2M to under- take the pool refurbishment project). Although pool user numbers are up - revenue is down Cutie Pie Harper Mulligan popped in to Odds and Evie with her mum to check out the latest childrens must have items. Photo: Barbara Reeves 0614PopUp2 By Katherine Cannon The ladies of the Parkes Craft Corner gathered last Thursday for their annual Knit and Natter day which has been run- ning for seven years. Brooke Daniels from the ABC in Or- ange has been collecting the squares and completed rugs for the program, Wrapped with love and care which started in 1992. The knitted squares and blankets which are donated and assembled by the ladies from the craft corner are distributed to a warehouse in Alexandria, Sydney. From there they will be allocated to the various charities in need, throughout the winter season. The program has helped more than 323,000 of those in need which has reached people in 75 countries. Brooke first got involved with the pro- gram through her connections with the ABC. The ladies, who contribute their time and wool, knit continually for the cause. The ladies involved usually prepare and knit for the program all year round, then they come down to craft corner and contribute their pieces, which are taken to Sydney, and sometimes transported over- seas, Ms Daniels said. Each year groups throughout the region participate in the event. The women involved with the Wrapped with love and care program have been knitting since they were young, growing up with the timely tradition.
