PRESENTATION

The presentation of the assignment solutions must be organized, clear, and descriptive. Consider
the following example.
Using an appropriate software package express the following algebraic fraction as partial
fractions

Ss
2
+ 2s +S
s
2
+Ss +2

Two methods of presentation of the answer to this question are given below.
Answer-1
Ss
2
+ 2s +S
s

+Ss +2
= S -

s +1

Answer-2
Ss

Package used is Matlab.

The Matlab code and the results returned are

>> num=[3 2 3];
>> den=[1 3 2];
>> [r, p, k]=residue(n,d)

r =
-11
4
p =
-2

k = 3

Hence, we get

= S -
11
s -(-2)

4
s -(-1)
= S -

Answer-1 is not acceptable. Answrer-2 is the correct way to present your answer to the question.

Task 1 (P3-1, M1)

A] Write the expression of the Fourier series for any periodical signal f(t). Identify each term in
the expression.

Fig.1b Fig.1c

B] Block diagram of a half wave rectified circuit is shown in Fig.1b. Sketch the voltage
waveform between the points A and B. Find the Fourier series for the waveform you sketched as
far as the 4
th
harmonic.

C] Now a battery of 3V is connected as shown in Fig.1c. Sketch the new waveform and deduce
the Fourier waveform for the new output.

Task 2 (P2-1, M3)

A] Define the transmission line parameters.

B] ABCD parameters are used to analyze the power transmission in transmission lines. Fig.2b
shows a pi arrangement of a transmission line. Find the ABCD parameters
.

Fig.2b
C] The 2-port admittance matrix of a certain network is given as
_
u.uS8S -]u.182 -u.uS8S + ]u.192
-u.uS8S +]u.192 u.uS8S -]u.182
_ S
Find the corresponding ABCD matrix

D] A 3-phase transmission line has the following properties:

Total series impedance per phase: 175/60
Total shunt admittance per phase: 0.0021/90 Siemens.
Line to line voltage at the receiving end: 400kV

If the line delivers a load of 100 MW at 0.85 power factor lagging, calculate the ABCD
parameters for the line

Electrical and Electronic Principles Assignment 2-3 International College of Business and Technology
Also calculate the sending end voltage, current, and power factor and the efficiency of
transmission

Task 3 (P2-2, D2)

A] Clearly show the series, parallel and cascade connections of the two port networks using
clearly labeled diagrams.

B] Briefly describe the importance of using two port parameter matrices.

C] A two port network is shown in Fig.3b. Determine the two-port admittance matrix.

Fig.3b

Also find the impedance Zo, that can be connected at port 2 as a load would give the input
impedance at port 1 also as Zo.

D] Another network shown in Fig.3c is connected in parallel with the network shown in Fig3b.
