    Anantha Krishnan Iyer graduated from Madras Christian College in 1883 and worked in various teaching roles before becoming involved in ethnographic work in Cochin in 1908. He published the first volume of his ethnographic survey of Cochin in 1908 and a second volume in 1914. In 1924, he was appointed to complete the ethnographic survey of Mysore, which he finished in 1936 in four volumes.
