Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome to my classroom! I am very excited to work with each and every one of you. Sixth
grade is a very exciting time in your childs life! Your child will be very busy this year learning and
exploring. Parent communication is very important to me so feel free to contact me whenever it is
needed. I wanted to discuss with you some important information about the procedures and
expectations in my classroom. I am looking forward to a great school year filled with learning and
discovering new concepts.
Here are my rules and regulations so students can be successful this year:

th
grade success!

Responsibilities
Attendance
Students, along with their materials, are to be in their assigned seat when the bell rings.
Students should immediately record the daily assignment into their student planners upon
arrival into the classroom.
Absences
o If a student has an absence from school, he or she is accountable for the assignment
given the last day present. The student should be prepared with it upon returning to
school. Students will be given as many days to finish missed assignments as they were
absent. However, it is very important to complete them as quickly as possible and work
on current assignments, as well.
o Assignments will be posted daily on the board. Students are responsible for finding out
what material was discussed in class and for the assignments they missed. Upon
returning from an absence, students need to check the absent work folder for
their work. If a student is absent for an extended period of time, I will work with him
or her to make a homework completion schedule.
o If a student knows ahead of time about an upcoming absence please request a
prearranged absence form from the office. This allows me time to prepare the students
work.

Materials
Students are required to bring their English textbook, English notebook, notebook paper,
writing utensils, homework, free reading book, and student planner to class each day.
Homework
Homework will be collected at the beginning of the class period. Assignments must be
completed before the start of class.
o Lost Homework
If students misplace their homework, they need to check in the folder marked extra
copies for a replacement and complete it BEFORE it is due. If none are left, please see
me.
o Late Homework Procedure
At the beginning of the school year students will be given a Debit Card. Students who
have not completed their homework on time have the ability to purchase additional
time to complete their assignment. The student MUST still complete the homework in
a timely manner with the opportunity to earn credit for the assignment. If a student
does not have his or her homework assignment completed on time, he or she must still
complete it by following these steps:
1.) At the beginning of class, students will need to inform me that they will need to
make a purchase from their Debit Card.
2.) A debit card purchase allows a student to turn in the assigned work 1 day late
without a grade penalty.
3.) Each debit card allows for two purchases for the first semester, and one purchase for
the second semester per subject.
4.) If a student has already used both Debit Card purchases/punches for a subject,
homework can be turned in 1 day late for 50% credit.
5.) If a student chooses not to turn in his or her late work by that classs next meeting
time, a ZERO will be recorded.

Here is a sample of the 6
th
grade ELA II Debit Card:

Debit Card Rewards
o Each student will be given two lates (debit card punches/purchases) per subject for 1
st
quarter and two lates per subject for 2
nd
quarter. During 3
rd
quarter only one late (debit
card punch/purchase) will be allotted and one late per subject for 4
th
quarter.
A debit card purchase does not excuse students from completing his or her work.
A debit purchase simply allows a student to turn in the homework 1 day late
without a grade penalty.
o At the end of each quarter, students will receive 5 extra points for each late not taken in
the corresponding subject(s).

Remember, each of you are in charge of putting forth your best effort possible! Within this classroom I
expect you to show respect and responsibility while learning to the best of your ability. We are going
to have a great school year!
